A quality, all-season, furnished holiday let in the heart of South Devon

The Cottage

Esmé's Cottage is located in the town of Ivybridge, which sits on the southern edge of Dartmoor, is easily accessed from the main A38 Exeter to Plymouth dual carriageway and is roughly 20 minutes drive from Plymouth.

The cottage, which can comfortably accommodate up to 5 adults, is around 200 years old. As a holiday let, it offers an attractive mix of old-world charm and modern amenity, providing a stylish and comfortable location from which to explore South Devon's moor towns and beaches.

Historical Charm

The cottage is around 200 years old. Originally thatched, it was probably used to house mill workers employed by the paper mill which sits at the head of the River Erme's fall into Ivybridge. With exposed beams throughout and an inglenook fireplace in the living room, the cottage evokes a sense of South Devon history.

Quiet Location

The cottage is mid-terrace in a row of cottages located in the old part of Ivybridge. The quiet location, opposite Victoria Park, is just a couple of hundred metres from the High Street. The original Ivy Bridge, a beautiful 12th Century hump-back bridge, captured on canvas by JMW Turner in 1814, is just 50 metres from the cottage.

Sophisticated Living

The cottage is a well-specified 3 bedroom home. Complementing its original features, the cottage has been refurbished and furnished to a high standard, to provide a clean, modern living environment. It is professionally cleaned when guests leave. Bed linen and towels are provided.

Location

Ivybridge is the perfect all-season 'touring destination' or base from which to explore South Devon. A short drive in any direction from the town leads to a wealth of interest, amenities and natural beauty, regardless of weather conditions or time of year.

Ivybridge

An all-season 'touring destination, Ivybridge dates from the 12th century. Dartmoor is easily accessible from the cottage by taking the Viaduct Walk through Longtimber Woods, giving you access to 368 square miles of moorland walking. The South Hams beaches of Slapton, Thurlestone, Bigbury, Wonwell, Hope Cove, etc, etc are also within easy reach - a drive of 20 minutes or so across the rolling hills of the South Hams.

South Hams

The South Hams delivers everything you could wish for of a South Devon holiday, within a 20 mile radius of the cottage. As well as all of the expected in-town amenities such as parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, libraries, etc, the pottery and the famous House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey, the quaint Buckfastleigh to Totness steam railway, the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth and a host of other child-friendly activities are within easy striking distance.

Devon

Whether wandering the art galleries and boutiques of towns such as Dartmouth and Salcombe, hunting for antiques in Modbury, heading to Kingsbridge for a stand-up paddleboarding lesson or meandering further afield to North Devon, you are never far from the attractions of a Devonshire cream tea. Not to be missed, and never to be confused with a Cornish cream tea.

...and Beyond

A short drive across the Tamar Bridge at Plymouth provides access to the delights of Cornwall. Looe, Polperro and Mevagissy, are easily reached, the Eden Project at Bodelva delivers a fascinating day out, and an early start from Ivybridge makes for a wonderful day trip to Truro, Falmouth and the Roseland Peninsula.

Relax in comfort

The Cottage is one of 6 in a row of terraced cottages which were built approximately 200 years ago. Originally of single story thatched design, the cottages have been extended over the years, and the thatch has been replaced with more functional slate tiles. On entering from the street, the Cottage comprises a main living room and large kitchen/diner downstairs. Upstairs there are 3 pretty bedrooms and a toilet/bathroom with bath and shower. Upstairs is carpeted throughout, except for the blue-pebble bathroom floor. Downstairs, the living room has an antique oak-style flooring and the kitchen is floored in blue-grey slate. The accommodation, which is centrally heated and benefits from modern sealed unit double-glazing, comfortably sleeps up to 5. We consider this to be an appropriate number of guests for the size of the property and the available facilities. Guests also have access to a small, private south-facing patio and rockery garden to the rear of the property. Outdoor table & chairs with lounger are provided.
